Hi, I’m Sam

I’m an author, intuitive storyteller, and women’s guide.

I’ve been weaving words since the day I picked up my first pencil and paper…seeking to understand life, and writing to express myself in the process.

In college I studied Journalism and learned the art and discipline of conveying relevant truth in creative ways.

Since those days, life has taken numerous turns. Today I’m a wife and mother with a unique perspective.

I created the vessel: Sam Schroeder Doula and the monthly publication: ‘The Doula Diaries’ to honor my storytelling roots, to share reflections of transformation since the birth of my son, and to connect with like-minded women.

about the doula

I vividly remember gazing down at my son on the day he was born and thinking, “I am a new person.”

That journey in the hospital awakened a reverence for myself and all women who’ve shared in the rite of birth.

As time went on, motherhood brought me back to my childhood to confront and heal from the wounds of my own mother’s death.

Each of us has a false story in our mind. A story that—if believed— can hold us back from our potential. For me, that story was:

“I cannot possibly be the mother my little one deserves without memories and examples to draw upon…without a proverbial ‘village’ and my own mother here to guide me.”

Sitting alone with these doubts forced me to dig…and dig some more…until finally I reached something universal—the timeless knowledge and strength of the feminine.

All women who retreat inward, unravel their respective stories, and come out the other side with wisdom to share are doulas.

Throughout history we’ve been given this name in recognition of our courage, resilience, and ability to lovingly guide each other through life’s thresholds.

about the diaries

After giving birth I committed to getting to know myself again in my new role. I realized the setup (and overall busyness) of my life wasn’t serving me. I craved more time to move slow. More time to be at home with my son…

The universe responded with the quarantine order of 2020— a catalyst for many, and for me, an answered prayer.

I transitioned to working remotely and later quit my job. I fell back in love with cooking and learned to grow a garden, which gave me a path to connect to the Earth and my intuition.

I acquired a library of new books and dove into a world of Native American teachings, Anthroposophy, and modern modalities like Astrology, Human Design, and Gene Keys.

I spent a portion of almost every day writing. Those journal entries turned into intentions, rituals, and dreams. Some turned into poems (one of which became my first published book in 2021).

Looking back, those years raising my child and re-mothering myself were my greatest gift to me.

After pouring so much back into my own cup, it overflowed. The words coming through my creative channel felt like they were meant to reach more people. I knew it was time to start sharing.

The Doula Diaries’ is my offering to anyone who fancies a read. If you’ve come this far on the page…thank you so much for being here! I hope you’ll stick around and enjoy.
